I figure it's better to address this on the blog itself rather than fill the poor defenseless guestbook with it. Ahem.

No. The FY aren't the only ones allowed to do this, but you and X Overdose are just coming off as wannabes. Both of you really don't impress me.

(Sorry to disappoint you, but our intention isn't to "impress". Again, read the mission statement.)

I've seen worse. Also, you sound like the others- self-righteous and too full of yourselves.

(So having opinions and expressing them means that we're stuck up and egotistical?)

I'll admit that you did make good points in some of your previous posts (I agree on the Subaru one, as a matter of fact), but in the rest, you're just...bleh. The same.

(Awww. That's wounding. Good god, people, we haven't even gotten started yet, and people have already decided that we "aren't special". Hold me, Thorn- I feel so ordinary!)

There's nothing unique about you or any other reviewing group that's out there to "make a difference" in their fandoms.

(Luckily, that has nothing to do with our actual goals.)

If you hate bad fanfiction, write your own. Prove yourself as a writer before you bash the quality of other people's writing.

(Actually, Fox, both Thorn and I are writers. Our fics can be seen on FFNet and Clampesque along with everybody else's. Thus far we haven't gotten any bad review on our work, either. Mind, if someone decides that they have a problem with something one of us has written, I think I speak for both of us when I say that criticism would be quite welcome on anything either of us has written. In fact, should you figure out who we are, you're welcome to go over any of MY work with a fine toothed comb. I'm confident enough in my own writing abilities that I can say that.

However, the reason we choose to do this anonymously is very simple. People are petty. People are sheeplike. People will flock to defend their beloved favorite writers at the slightest hint of negativity, without pausing to consider what's being said.

Doing this anonymously is our safety net. If people don't know who we are, people can't actually GET to us. The point of this blog is not to take cheap shots at unfortunate fanfic writers. It's to really LOOK at what we're so quick to praise- and ALSO what we're so quick to dismiss. I've seen many a wonderful story tossed aside on CLAMPesque simply because the writer isn't well recognized, while a really mediocre one is showered with praise because it's written by someone more prolific.

The point of One-Eyed is simply to try to bring some things to light, both good and bad.

Actually I'd like to thank you for being so civil about your message, though. *grin* I get the feeling we're going to get a lot worse in the days to come.)

Also, thanks for your support, Leareth. All this fuss about us is nothing short of encouraging, to tell the truth- it means people are paying attention. That's a good thing. We're gonna be here for a good long while.

And the next post will be an actual review, I promise.

Heh. All I have to say is that people aren't reading our mission statement very well. Or even the first half of that last post.

My dears, there are good and bad sides to everything. Even fanfiction. ESPECIALLY fanfiction. Sorry to burst the happy little bubbles, but sometimes you have to look reality in the face.

And by all means, please keep bitching about us on your blogs. If you're all THIS upset over us already, imagine how you'll feel once we actually get started.

Incidentally, we fully support X Overdose. After all, they ARE just voicing what most people are too afraid to say. ^_^

So stay tuned--and I know you will. Because my darlings, people love conflict. It shows even more when they bitch and moan about it publicly.

Merry Christmas everyone. ^_^

Mission Statement

We tell the truth about fanfiction.
And the truth is that some of it is really good. Some it it is really bad. Some of it's overrated and some of it's underread. And that's what we're here to fix. It's time for the unrecognized to be recognized, for the overrecognized to hear some real criticism.
We're not going to bitch to the high heavens about bad spelling or faulty coding. That's not the point.
What we are going to bitch about are the important things. Good characterization. Well carried plots. Clear language. Well-chosen words. Convincing interactions.
That's why we came to the fandom in the first place.
Yes, we will bitch about OOC. Yes, we will bitch about stupid metaphor. And, yes, we will bitch about crack ideas in a fic if they don't make sense.
But we're not going to be all about bitching, either.
No, we're here to bring your attention to the good side of fanfiction, as well. It's easy to complain about what's wrong with X fanfiction. But we want to show everybody what's well-written and satisfying, what's right with it--at least what we think is right.
So sit back, relax, and let us show you the way.
Oh, and by the way, neither of us is one-eyed. That's a line from Elvira Kurt. "Kitten With A Wit". Good stuff.
Also by the way? Flames will be MSTed and posted. Just so you know. E-mail at your own risk.
